Griffin Theatre Company is proud to manage and curate the SBW Stables Theatre on behalf of its owner, the Seaborn Broughton and Walford Foundation. One of the great birthplaces of contemporary Australian theatre, it was the original home of the legendary Nimrod Theatre Company.
With a capacity of only 120, it is also Sydney's most intimate and persuasive professional stage. The SBW Foundation (established at the instigation of the late Dr Rodney Seaborn AO OBE) purchased the Stables in 1986, rescuing it from demolition and securing Griffin a home when its future in the venue was in jeopardy.Griffin acknowledges the generosity of the SBW Foundation in allowing it, since 1986, the use of the SBW Stables theatre rent free, less outgoings.
