Griffin Award

The Griffin Award is an annual $5000 prize offered for an outstanding new Australian play or performance text.

Now in its 11th year, the Griffin Award celebrates the bright future of Australian drama. More than 100 nominations were received from every state in 2007.

Griffin Award Entry Details

The Griffin Award recognizes an outstanding play or performance text that displays an authentic, inventive and contemporary voice.

Plays or performance texts submitted may be original ideas or adaptations from other forms.

The Griffin Literary Office will assess the entries and prepare a shortlist that will be submitted to a judging panel of industry leaders to select the winner.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:

To be eligible plays must be:
a) at least 60 minutes in length
b) unproduced and unpublished
c) unencumbered by agreements for future production or publication
d) Not previously submitted for the Griffin Award
e) Playwrights must be citizens of Australia or resident in Australia for at least 12 months prior to the Award closing date.

While all reasonable care will be taken with works submitted, no responsibility can be taken for loss of material received.

The decision of the judging panel is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

The work must be submitted in hard-copy form, delivered to the Griffin office.

If you wish to have your play returned, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Griffin shall have world-wide first right of refusal to produce the winning play for a period of 12 months following announcement of the winner.
