Griffin's play development program is aimed at developing plays for production by Griffin and enhancing the skills of Australian playwrights.
Griffin offers an assessment service, develops work through workshops and readings, manages the Griffin Award and runs a Residency Program for emerging playwrights.
Submissions to be considered for inclusion in the Griffin Season
Griffin will give consideration to your script if you fulfil one of the following criteria:
If you don't fall into any of these categories and you'd still like your play to be considered and assessed you can send us a one page outline of your play together with a ten-page sample. If it's of interest, we'll request a full script.
Dramaturgy and Training
Griffin offers a dramaturgy and training service available to all Australian writers. You can commission an assessment of your completed manuscript at one of the following levels:
Grade 1 - Written assessment, two pages, dealing with the positive features of your script and potential areas for improvement: $110
Grade 2 - A 2500 to 3000 word report, between 3 and 5 pages, dealing with the positives and areas for improvement and the major skills areas.: $160
Grade 3 - Detailed dramaturgical analysis and face to face session with a dramaturg: $400
Alternatively, you can develop the draft of your play with our guidance and supervision by taking Griffin's 10 Week Writers' Course. This course meets for three hours a week and addresses skills such as structure, character, dialogue, etc. You work on your script in your own time, under the supervision of our tutor. At the end of the 10 weeks, a draft is submitted to the tutor who offers a written assessment. At the time of this assessment, you'll be informed if Griffin is interested in seeing future drafts.
