Capital Appeal
It’s time to give Australian playwrights a better home.
Griffin is raising funds to undertake a much needed renovation of the SBW Stables Theatre, home of Australian playwrights and seedbed for Australian acting and directorial talent for over 30 years.
The renovation will involve restoring the interior and exterior brick walls of the theatre, refinishing the concrete floor in the foyer to solve drainage issues, building a brand new box office and bar and refitting the foyer bathrooms. Upstairs, the seating will be redesigned to improve patron comfort and back of house facilities will be modernised in the lighting/sound operator space and dressing rooms. We are also investigating whether we can improve the accessibility of the theatre for our patrons with limited mobility.
Next door at Griffin’s terrace, an exterior restoration will smarten up our professional headquarters and internally a lighting and storage refit will help create a healthy work environment for the Griffin team. We will treat the areas of damp affecting the terrace’s walls and ceilings.
Importantly, we are making it a priority to retain the much loved aesthetic of the theatre by integrating original finishes with a more practical design solutions for our working spaces.
As you might imagine, these works are not small and will have a huge impact on the buildings. We therefore plan for the works schedule to take place over three years (2010 – 2012)
Griffin needs to raise a huge $1,000,000 to carry out the works and we hope you will consider taking part in this historic campaign to restore one of Sydney’s oldest and most loved theatres.
Donations to the campaign can be made at any level and all contributions over $2 are fully tax-deductible.
To be part of the acknowledgement wall in the new foyer design, donations at the following levels can be upfront or over a 3 year payment plan:
Brick $3,000
Step $15,000
Pillar $45,000
