This Year’s Ashes: Jane Bodie

1. Where was Ellen last Friday night?
She’s not entirely sure. She knows she started out at a works drinks thing, and then she went to Hunky Dory for a Espresso Martini with someone called Nigel from accounts, then she’s pretty sure she went for a few wines at Kinsella’s (though she couldn’t swear by it) and then (though she swore she wouldn’t) she pretty much definitely ended up at Stonewall and would have been the only women in there, and certainly the only woman dancing on a table to “It’s Raining Men’
2. What was the last book she read? Can we make this ‘What’s her favourite Rom Com’
‘The Apartment’ with Jack Nicholson and Shirley Maclaine, followed closely by Scorsese’s After Hours, and then ‘It Happened One Night’.
3. Was Ellen on her school cricket team?
Much to her father’s disappointment ‘No’. She did try out, but the School sports department suggested she perhaps join up for the annual ‘Lemonade relay race.’ She now deeply regrets not making a bit more of an effort at her try out – at least wearing some flat shoes.
4. Describe Ellen’s (instead) favourite spot in Sydney.
She’d pick Bronte sea baths, if it wasn’t for the yummy mummy’s and half naked posers doing laps and the Butterfly stroke.
She’s also quite fond of Harry’s Café De Wheels – but that’s probably due to the fact it stays open till the wee hours, it’s often pretty much en route home and you don’t have to book or wait for a seat to get a pie.
5. Her last date was with Nigel from accounts, if you can call getting someone to look after your bag, whilst you re-apply your lipglass, a date.

This Year’s Ashes is coming to the Stables on 7 October. Playwright Jane Bodie introduces us to the enigmatic Ellen.
