2017 Main Season
A message from Lee
We promise you a year of theatre to remember.
High up on the hill overlooking this glorious city in this inglorious time.
The best new plays, the best actors, the best creative teams… in the best theatre in the country.
Inside the magic SBW Stables Theatre you will discover future Australian classics, you will breathe in new ideas, you will thrill to new voices, and you will be inspired by the extraordinary visions of Australian playwrights. They will challenge you, question you, satirise you, entertain you and provoke you… their words will be so close to you, you will be able to reach out and touch their talent.
Three brand new plays will premiere in Griffin’s 2017 Main Season. Ross Mueller navigates the world of office politics in A Strategic Plan; Declan Greene takes farce to new extremes in The Homosexuals; and Michele Lee explores the different relationships that migrants of varying generations and backgrounds have with Australia in Rice. For our fourth Main Season play, we are reviving Katherine Thomson’s acclaimed Diving For Pearls. Written by Thomson two decades ago, it is still as relevant today as it has ever been.
Griffin is the home of Australian playwriting – always has been, always will be. Your plays, your theatre, your voices, your hopes, fears and dreams.
Under your skin, in your face, on your lap, high on a hill and deep in your hearts. We promise.
