GRIFFringe

WHAT IS GRIFFRINGE?
GRIFFringe is a new(ish) initiative by Griffin aiming to open the Stable doors to all emerging and established artists and art forms, and to give our audiences some effervescent new entertainment on our theatre’s dark days with a series of cracking new work on random Sunday afternoons.   In each GRIFFringe session we bring together pieces (of 10-30 minutes each) to form a two hour session, and occasionally give the space over to a longer, stand-alone presentation.   A GRIFFringe piece could be a complete short play, an excerpt from a work in development, cabaret, stand-up, a devised piece or a mini-musical.  It could also be none of those things.   Also, everything about it, except for its artistic standard, is cheap. After our operational costs are covered, all box office proceedings (tickets at ten bucks a pop) are split between artisans performing on the night.

NEXT GRIFFRINGE… SUNDAY 11 March @4pm (doors open at 3).

FREAKS & LOVERS

Featuring the following lineup…

The Wonder from Downunder – The Search for Gippsland’s Giant Earthworm.

Written and Performed by Melita Rowston  Directorial eye Augusta Supple

In 1974, Korumburra’s coal mine had gone bust, its butter factory had ceased production and its youth had begun the great exodus north – to Warragul. Not even the newly opened Coal Creek Heritage Village, featuring authentic pioneering exhibits, could entice the kids to stay. That is, until one man had a dream. A dream that would change a small town forever…

Three years, 100 metres of pink material, two golf buggy wheels and a roll of poly pipe later, Karmai was born. Known as The Wonder from Downunder, the world’s largest worm puppet took the world by storm.

Blending the forms of  theatre, a corporate keynote and a holiday slideshow, Melita Rowston travels to Worm Country in search of a time when big things, historical folk museums and variety television could change lives.

Dig it: Word!
This Hour -  Lucy Watson and Erica J Brennan

Audiences dig into the Common Ground Dirt Mound to discover the etymological and riduculinal roots to a few words, a handful of old leathery banana skins, a scattering of light-filled feathers and some nuts. Meanwhile two lost 1940′s archaeologists begin Step One of the pamphlet Advancing Your Marketing Strategy by drilling through walls before getting stuck, like an old leathery banana skin, in the dirt. Slowly deserting their senses, in every respect, they write increasingly erratic Gamble-Everything-For-Love Letters to silent strangers back home. Visit blog – http://thishouriamat.wordpress.com/

..And other headline acts to be announced soon, stay tuned…
