Griffin Independent Season 2010
From around the world, Griffin Independent presents theatre that is hand-made, well-crafted and defiantly unique – from some of the country’s most exciting independent theatre companies. Griffin Independent sits alongside Griffin Theatre Company’s mainstage season of new Australian playwriting, placing it in a global context and showcasing some of the most groundbreaking theatre talent around.
A season of new international work, Griffin Independent is irreverent, vigorous, articulate, experimental, uncompromising, relevant and socially engaged. It is theatre that re-reads the classics while skimming the TV guide. It re-lives the past through the lens of another art. It is a play within a play as actors perform for their lives. It holes up in bug-infested cheap motel rooms. It keeps pigeons, plays scrabble and sometimes just wants to disappear. It explodes out of the gaming culture to battle glass-eating aliens.
In 2010, join playwrights Charles Mee, Sarah Grochala, Juan Mayorga, Tracy Letts, David Gieselmann and Roland Schimmelpfennig on a new journey into fractured realities and forbidden worlds.
