Housewarming Week
16 – 21 AUGUST
You’re invited
Following refurbishment of our foyer in August (stage one of our exciting capital works program) Griffin throws open the doors of the Stables for a week of celebration, both of our fancy new space and our work throughout the year in developing the best new Australian theatre.
Monday 16 August – Capital Appeal Opening Drinks
We personally thank our valued capital appeal donors, who will be invited in to be the first to see our brand new space. Although there are plenty of reasons to celebrate what we’ve achieved thus far, the reopening of the foyer only represents phase one of our refurbishment. For more information on our future plans, and the capital campaign, click here.
Monday 16 August – Open Auditions
For the first time in 2010, Griffin will hold open auditions. For more information on the auditions, click here.
Tuesday 17 August – Griffin Award
The winner of the 2010 Griffin Award for an outstanding new Australian play will be announced tonight, selected from over 130 entries from around the country. Following the announcement, a professional cast of Griffin artists will present the winning play in a public reading at the SBW Stables Theatre. Previous winners include Lachlan Philpott, Brendan Cowell, Deborah Oswald, Noelle Janacsewska and Ian Wilding. Now in its 13th year, the annual Griffin Award offers $10,000 to the winner. The Award has been made possible by PKF Chartered Accountants & Business Advisers, who have now sponsored this prestigious prize for the last five years.
Wednesday 18 August – Currency Press Launch and Forum
Currency Press launches Damage, a collection of plays by John Romeril which recognises and applauds a canon of work by one of Australia’s major playwrights. Following the launch, an exploration of the idea of a ‘lost’ repertoire in our theatre. How many more ‘canons’ might be out there? Join us for a discussion on remembering, recognising and rejoicing in our theatrical repertoire. For more information on the forum topic, click here.
Wednesday 18 August – Artist & Industry Party
We welcome artists associated with Griffin and our industry pals into the space to check out the fabulous improvements and to sample the great new bar.
Thursday 19 August – Acting Up
Griffin is launching ACTING UP this year – a specialised and tailored training experience for corporate staff teams. ACTING UP gives teams the chance to live a day in the life of a professional actor including skills development encompassing managing pre-performance adrenaline, body language & blocking, presentation preparation skills, taking professional direction, on stage group communication, taking cues, responding to an audience and team building. To find out more or register a team, please contact Griffin’s Development Manager, Allie Townsend, on 9332 1052 or allie@griffintheatre.com.au.
Friday 20 August – Griffin Play Offs
Six of Australia’s hottest young playwrights, completing the 2010 NIDA playwriting course, pit their skills against the clock to write, rehearse and perform a 10-minute play in 24 hours. The fruits of their labour will then be performed in the SBW Stables Theatre, presented by six of the country’s hottest young directors in NIDA’s 2010 graduate directors.
Saturday 21 August – Junior Play Offs
This year for the first time we’re giving our youth advisory panel the GYI and Ambassadors (yr 11 and 12 students participating in our annual access program) the opportunity to participate in their very own 24-Hour Play Generator. Everyone is excited about their chance to take to the stage – and we’re very much looking forward to seeing the results.
See you at the Stables.
