Lady Grey
By Will Eno
9 - 13 February 2010
'Do you like vocal chords? Do you enjoy trembling? Do you have time for a story or two? Some vivid images of waving wheat fields, quiet violence, and a version of love?'
Welcome to the extraordinary and mind-expanding world of playwright Will Eno, one compounded in equal measure of love, loss and whip-lash humour.
The thoughts of an ordinary young woman are extruded through a vivid, disarming monologue that reveals her life for what it truly is: wild, energised, marked by deep pain and fierce joy. The ordinary and everyday is transformed through an authorial voice that shows us in startling and unforgettable language what lies hidden beneath.
Deep poetic truths + remorseless wit and intelligence = Lady Grey. If hearts could speak, they would sound like Eno writes.
Inscription is mounting this production of Lady Grey as part of Will Eno’s Australian tour in February/March 2010. Eno is Inscription’s visiting artist and will run a series of experimental playwriting masterclasses in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Inscription and the AWG have joined forces to work on developing cutting edge training for Australian performance writers in theatre, film and TV. This year they have three major initiatives rolling out in February, June and October. Eno will work with twelve Australian playwrights on their new projects: Tim Gooding, Elise Hearst (Griffin Resident Playwright), Lachlan Philpott (Griffin Resident Playwright), Verity Laughton, Lally Katz, Jane Harrison, Amelia Roper, David Mence, Maxine Mellor, Helen Wentland, Claire Christian, David Burton and Stephen Carleton.
